Release notes
What changed for you, newest first. The version you are running is shown in a session's Info panel, on the Client line. A new version arrives the next time you load the page; a session that is already open keeps going.
20261023.1 · 23 October 2026
- The SSH lines end a dead tunnel within about 90 seconds and stop at once when the local port is taken.
- Safety and tunnels shows the normal port forward first, and in Advanced two ways with Unix sockets on the server, so the server's other users cannot reach your gateway or xrdp.
20261022.4 · 22 October 2026
- The page says what it is and who it is for, under the header, and every page's header links to the project on GitHub.
20261022.3 · 22 October 2026
- Each demo's link is shown under it, with Copy link, and is kept for good:
#xrdp-gnome,#xrdp-kde,#xrdp-xfce,#gnome-remote-desktop. The links of 20261022.2 still work, and a link to a demo that is gone opens the first.
20261022.2 · 22 October 2026
- Every demo under ▶ Intro has its own link to share, such as
index.html#demo-xrdp-kde;index.html#introopens the first. The demos now play with their sound (after your first click, as browsers require; until then a 🔊 Sound on button). - A host's link: Copy link in the host bar gives
index.html?v=<host:port>, which opens the page with that host selected, or adds it. The link carries the address only, never a user or password.
20261022.1 · 22 October 2026
- Four demo videos under ▶ Intro, now with their sound in time: GNOME and KDE Plasma on Wayland through the xrdp preview, sent in AV1, then Xfce and GNOME's own remote desktop. They are recorded afresh with every tested build.
20261021.3 · 21 October 2026
- A new demo video, first under ▶ Intro: GNOME 51 on Wayland through the xrdp preview, sent in AV1 and decoded by your browser, with web video, WebGL and sound in the session.
20261021.1 · 21 October 2026
- Microphone: switch it on under Session settings to talk in the remote session. The browser asks for permission when the remote computer starts listening. It needs the newer client; with an older one the switch stays off.
0.4.13 · 20 October 2026
- The FreeRDP Web icon shows in the browser tab and when you install the site as an app.
0.4.12 · 20 October 2026
- After you connect with a typed password, the page offers to save it with your passkey, as a phone does after a sign-in: one Touch ID (or Windows Hello) and the next connection fills it for you. Choose Not now, or Never for this host, to skip it.
- Setting up the passkey vault takes one passkey prompt instead of two, with passkeys that support it.
0.4.11 · 20 October 2026
- New Session setting, Remote scale: keep your screen's scale (Automatic) or choose 100, 125, 150 or 200 %. The choice stays the same when you resize the window or switch to full screen. Windows follows it; GNOME does from version 50 on.
- With "Full screen" checked, a session on a Mac starts at the full size of the screen instead of a little smaller.
0.4.10 · 20 October 2026
- Capture the mouse and keyboard for the remote desktop: in full screen, click the remote desktop; in a window, use the toolbar's Capture button. The mouse then stays with the remote desktop, as in a virtual machine. Press and release Ctrl + Alt to get them back.
0.4.9 · 20 October 2026
- On a Mac, switching apps with Cmd + Tab during a session no longer opens the remote desktop's Activities overview or Start menu, and no key stays pressed on the remote side afterwards. Cmd + C and other Cmd shortcuts no longer leave the letter repeating.
0.4.8 · 20 October 2026
- In full screen, the session toolbar no longer drops down whenever the mouse touches the top of the screen. Rest the mouse for a moment at the small grip in the top centre to bring it back; the corners are left to the remote desktop's own buttons and menus. It hides again when you move away.
0.4.7 · 19 October 2026
- On a high-resolution screen (a Retina Mac, a laptop at 150 % or 200 %), the remote desktop starts at your screen's scale. Servers that follow it, such as GNOME or Windows, no longer start small and then jump to the larger size.
0.4.6 · 18 October 2026
- Full screen during a session shows the whole remote desktop again. On a Mac, switching to full screen after connecting could leave the picture shifted and cut off.
0.4.5 · 18 October 2026
- The same header on every page: FreeRDP Web as the title, then ▶ Intro, the help pages, Release notes and the theme, in one row. ▶ Intro on a help page takes you to the demo videos.
0.4.4 · 18 October 2026
- This page: what changed for you in each version, linked at the top of every page.
- The header's items (▶ Intro, the help pages, Release notes, the theme) share one style.
0.4.3 · 18 October 2026
- The SSH line in the safety notice and on Safety and tunnels now starts with
ssh -tt. The gateway on your server then stops by itself when you close the tunnel, even if you started ssh from a script or a shortcut.
0.4.2 · 18 October 2026
- The SSH line now sends your local gateway port to the server's port 3390, where websockify runs next to RDP. If you use another port on your computer, copy the line again.
- If you never changed a host's gateway, it moves from 127.0.0.1:6080 to the new default 127.0.0.1:3390 by itself. Gateways you typed yourself stay as they are.
- ▶ Intro in the header shows the demo videos again.
0.4.1 · 18 October 2026
- The default gateway is 127.0.0.1:3390, next to RDP's 3389, in the page, the help and
rdp-gateway.sh.
0.4.0 · 18 October 2026
- Two one-minute demos on your first visit: Xfce through xrdp, and GNOME on Wayland through gnome-remote-desktop, with web video, WebGL and sound on the remote desktop. Skip them if you like; they download only when they play.
- Theme: System, Light or Dark, at the top of every page.
- A new address: congzhangzh.github.io/freerdp-web. The old one forwards here.
0.3.0 · 18 October 2026
- Hosts: keep several servers in the bar under the safety notice. Each remembers its gateway, user, session settings and advanced options; the form edits the selected one as you type. Your earlier settings became the first host.
- The passkey vault, per host (Advanced): keep a host's password encrypted in this browser and unlock it with a passkey when you connect. Otherwise your browser's password manager keeps it.
- Export and import your hosts as a file to move them to another browser, with the vault's passwords only if you tick it, and encrypted with a passphrase if you tick that.
0.2.0 · 18 October 2026
- A simpler start: gateway, user, password, Connect. The browser's password manager offers to save the password.
- The route at the top: how the page reaches your desktop, with the one SSH line that sets it up.
- Session settings: sound, clipboard, full screen, the video codec, and a priority: save bandwidth, or reduce the server's load.
- Advanced: Direct TCP in the installed app, the passkey vault, extra FreeRDP options.
- Keyboard: Windows Remote Desktop (mstsc) shortcuts if your hands know those: Keyboard.
- The remote desktop now fills the window; before, it was drawn at 800 × 600.
0.1 · October 2026
- The first version: FreeRDP's client in your browser through a WebSocket gateway, or with Direct TCP in the installed app; clipboard text and images, full screen with the keyboard captured, sound, the session toolbar and Info panel, and a saved log when a session ends unexpectedly.
For developers: the detailed changes are in CHANGELOG.md.
